The Morning Show, 2m-Edition

I don’t think I’ve turned on the 2m handheld in around a year. I keep it charged and tuned to the local repeater, FM analog. If there are big storms coming or similar disturbances in the area, I’ll flip it on and monitor. Sometimes I’ll hear the morning crew come to life between 4-5 A.M.; sometimes I’ll hear an evening net. I rarely chat though ~ mostly lurk.

Sitting at my desk early this morning, I heard a kerchunk or two and the repeater identification ~ must’ve left the radio on last night and gone to bed with it quiet. Anyway, the morning crew appeared… and with it, politics — lots of right wing & anti-vax chatter from a few old timers. That seems really weird for this area: Our county has 80%+ of everyone vaccinated and leans a bit to the other side of center.

It didn’t used to be this way around here… I turned it back off.

I love the technology, and I love the capability, but… yeah. The thing about any kind of communication platform? It’s people who use them. For better or for worse, people continue to be people.
